30 Days of Gratitude – Part 2

For those who are just tuning in, this month I am participating in the 30 Days of Gratitude Challenge. :)

Day 6: What in nature are you grateful for?
This morning, I am thankful for the clouds. Today, Mark and I went for a run. It was a bit overcast, but the weather was perfect.   Clouds are the best when running because the sun isn’t glaring in your eyes, and it is slightly cooler. I was able to keep the sun visor up on the stroller so Mark kept turning around and grinning at me.

Day 7: What memory are you grateful for?
I have so many memories that I am grateful for that it is hard to pick just one. The one that seems etched in my mind as the most significant would be when I saw my husband walking up the stairs at my apartment complex the night that we first met. That evening set in motion a whole series of things that I am so incredibly thankful for, such as our ultimate marriage, my beautiful children, and moving around a bit. (Side note – the picture below is a recent picture, not from when we first met.)

Day 8: What book are you most grateful for?
Today I am grateful for Pigs to the Rescue (affiliate link) by John Himmelman. Mark loves this book as well as the other three books in the series. They are humorous, and they unintentionally taught Mark his days of the week. Mark liked them so much after checking them out from our local library that we bought him all four books for his birthday.

Day 9: What place are you most grateful for?
Today, I am grateful for our comfortable couch. It was a cold, windy, and overcast day. When the weather is not ideal for playing outside, I love cuddling with Mark while reading books. I know he won’t always want to sit and read books with me, so I plan to enjoy it while it lasts.

Day 10: What tastes are you grateful for today?
This was an easy one. Today we made pizza. This is actually what Matt and I did on our first date a number of years ago. I am reminded of it each time we make pizza at home. This evening’s pizza included green and yellow peppers. Yum. As a side note, Mark doesn’t like pizza. He would rather just eat the yellow pepper.

Day 11: What holiday are you grateful for?
Today is Veteran’s Day. My heart is filled with gratitude for all of the men and women who have chosen to selflessly serve their country. I am thankful that there are people willing to make tremendous sacrifices, especially Mark’s godfather (who is currently deployed), so that we can enjoy the rights that we have in this beautiful country. We celebrated today by attending a local Veteran’s Day parade. Mark loved waving his American flag in support of our veterans and enjoyed listening to the band from our local military base.

Day 12: What texture are you grateful for?
I am thankful for the feeling of soft sheets when you jump into bed after a busy day. There is something incredibly relaxing about great sheets, particularly when they just came out of the dryer.

Day 13: What ability are you grateful for?
Today I am thankful for the ability to get my son down for a nap in a timely manner. It used to be a long process that involved 45 minutes of screaming on his part and occasionally a few hormonal tears on my part. Today, he read a book, rocked for just a moment with me, laid down in his crib, said prayers, and fell asleep within a couple minutes of me leaving the room. Alleluia! We worked hard on nap-time early on and have come a long way. (Big shout out to my amazing sister-in-law who is a sleep specialist.)
