To the Mother of “Bucket List Baby”

Dear Jenna,

You are not alone.  I know that a wave of press and media has surrounded your pregnancy and the birth of your beautiful son, Shane.  However, there is a quieter group that is thinking about you and praying for your family during this most difficult time.  We are the grieving mothers who silently mourn the loss of our sweet children.  We know what it feels like to carry a life inside of you and then have it taken away.  Some of us carried that life for a few months only to have a miscarriage, others lost their child shortly after birth, and still others yet watched their child grow up and then were left broken-hearted when that child passed away far too young.  We, grieving mothers, know and understand your pain, and we are praying for you.

We would also like to thank you for bringing attention to a topic that people don’t like to talk about – the fact that sometimes babies die, and families are left to grieve.  Although we are often supported by family and friends, we sometimes still feel isolated.  It is tough to understand the pain that comes from losing a child after carrying him/her in your womb, until it happens to you.

We would also like to thank you for choosing life in a society that often says a baby isn’t a baby until “it” is born.  If you have carried a child and felt he/she kick and move inside of you, then it is hard to deny that there is a tiny human in there.  I am sure that some encouraged you to terminate your pregnancy because your child was sick. Thank you for being a light to the world and reminding everyone that each life is precious and that every baby deserves a full life – even if it is in utero.

Again, please know that we are thinking about you, praying for you, and are deeply sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,

Grieving Mothers
